Matthew
M. Rundio concentrates his practice in plaintiff's personal
injury law including cases arising from medical malpractice,
nursing home negligence, construction negligence, transportation
(automobile, truck, and railroad) negligence, premises liability,
aviation negligence, and wrongful death litigation.
Mr.
Rundio attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana
where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology
in 1997. He then attended Loyola University of Chicago School
of Law and earned a Juris Doctor degree in 2000.
Mr.
Rundio began his practice in personal injury litigation
as a law clerk at a prominent plaintiff's personal injury
law firm specializing in claims for wrongful death and personal
injury arising out of aviation, transportation, medical
malpractice, and product liability claims. During his tenure,
he had responsibilities in all aspects of preparing plaintiff
personal injury claims for trial from the initial filing
of lawsuits through case preparation for settlements and
jury verdicts. The cases he worked on addressed complex
and often cutting-edge liability and damages issues. This
experience included matters that resulted in a 6.5 million
dollar settlement in a pedestrian-bus accident, a 5.25 million
dollar settlement in a taxi cab-automobile collision, a
2.4 million dollar jury verdict in a motor vehicle negligence
suit, a 2 million dollar settlement in a construction negligence
claim, a $425,000 jury verdict in a construction negligence/premises
liability suit, a multi-million dollar jury verdict in a
railroad negligence case, and several multi-million dollar
jury verdicts and pre-trial settlements in medical malpractice
cases.
Upon
receiving his law degree, Mr. Rundio continued working in
the personal injury area as an associate at a leading insurance
defense litigation firm in Chicago, Illinois. He participated
in and managed the defense of claims for compensatory (economic
and non-economic damages) and punitive damages based on
liability claims for construction injuries, exposure to
toxic fumes, nursing home neglect, and auto, trucking, and
railroad accidents. Mr. Rundio was a member of the trial
team that defended a construction contractor in the collapse
of a stadium retractable roof resulting in multiple deaths.
He also participated in the defense of a railroad tank car
manufacturer in a class-action lawsuit for the release of
a toxic gas in a two state area.
Mr.
Rundio is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of
America, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association
and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
