Timothy
J. Cavanagh is a founder and partner of Lloyd & Cavanagh
in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Cavanagh concentrates his practice
in plaintiff's personal injury trial work and handles catastrophic
injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death cases. Mr.
Cavanagh has obtained numerous million plus dollar verdicts
and settlements for his clients. In 2005, Mr. Cavanagh obtained
a $3 Million settlement in a Product Liability case for
a man who lost his leg while working for a waste hauling
company. That same year, Mr. Cavanagh and his partner obtained
a $7.5 Million settlement for a woman left brain damaged
after emergency hospital personnel failed to provide an
EKG for complaints of chest pain within a timely manner.
That case settled after 2 weeks of trial. Within 2 weeks
of that trial, Mr. Cavanagh settled several automobile crash
cases for $400,000, $600,000 and $700,000 just prior to
opening statements at trial. In
December, 2003, Mr. Cavanagh obtained a $2 million verdict
for the daughter of a woman who was killed instantly when
her vehicle was struck by a car driven by a man fleeing
a Chicago Police Department squad car engaged in a "police
pursuit." A Cook County jury rejected the City of Chicago's
position that it was not engaged in the pursuit at the time
of the fatal collision. Because the City was found 25% at
fault, it is responsible for the entire verdict amount.
The City declined to make a settlement offer prior to trial.
In October, 2003, Mr. Cavanagh obtained a $4.5 Million wrongful
death settlement for the family of a woman killed in a collision
between a van and a semi tractor-trailer. In 2002, Mr. Cavanagh
was recognized by the National Law Journal for obtaining
one of the top verdicts in the country for his $21.3 verdict
for the passengers of a vehicle injured in a collision with
a freight train. In 2001, Mr. Cavanagh obtained a $9.1 million
settlement for a woman who suffered severe injuries in another
train/automobile collision. In 1996, he obtained a $5.7
Million Arbitration Award in an Uninsured Motorist Claim
that is reportedly the largest such award in Illinois history.
Earlier in 1996, Mr. Cavanagh obtained a $1 million dollar
settlement in a wrongful death action in the Circuit Court
of Cook County. In 1995, Mr. Cavanagh obtained a $586,000
verdict against a Chicago cab company as a result of a traffic
collision. In 1993, Mr. Cavanagh obtained the largest personal
injury verdict in the history of Morgan County, Colorado.
